VICISU 2018

The sixth VICISU took place from 29 July to 18 August 2018 at Stift Altenburg.

The 30 participating students came from universities in countries such as Australia, Ghana, Germany, Indonesia, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Turkey, the United States of America and Austria.

For the first time, a professional conflict and management training with experienced professional trainers complemented the programme. Father Michael, the Prior of the monastery, gave a guided tour through the Abbey of Altenburg and the "Garden of the Religions".

On 9 August, Abbot Thomas Renner and the community of the Abbey of Altenburg invited all the participants to a celebratory reception. The cultural programme also included an orchestra concert during the regional music festival "Allegro Vivo" which took place in the baroque library of the Abbey. As part of the VICISU tradition, an excursion to the Abbey of Melk, a boat trip on the Danube, and a visit to the castle of Rosenburg were organised. The extracurricular programme also included a number of social events and sporting activities. Two highlights were the multicultural talent show and the intercultural dinner, where the participants performed dances and songs from their home countries and prepared traditional meals.

As in the years before, the VICISU concluded in Vienna where the students received their certificates of participation by Vice-Dean Prof. Franz-Stefan Meissel of the Faculty of Law of the University of Vienna. Additionally, they visited the city, including the main building of the University of Vienna and the United Nations and were invited to a reception in the Vienna City Hall. The farewell dinner was held at a typical Viennese restaurant.
